This weekend, I’m going on a writing retreat! That’s right–going on, not facilitating–and I’m feeling all aflutter about it.
Aflutter seems appropriate, given that we’re in the midst of Metamorphosize 2012: The Year of the Badass Butterfly.
I’ll be writing more about that in the coming days, but for now, just know that it’s time for all of us to shed the gooey stuff and flap our wings. Please see the photo below, starring my friend Carlyn (co-creatrix of the BB) and I, demonstrating proper Badass Butterfly form.
But for now, back to being aflutter in terms of this writing retreat. I need this writing retreat. I need to be recharged and to get back to the center of myself and the source of my writing passion. I need a kickstart. So I’ve been super-excited to go. Then, this afternoon, C asked me if I had any goals for the weekend, and I got nervous, which for me, is odd.
I love goals. I am an agenda connoisseur. But of late, in terms of my own writing, writing agendas and goals make me freeze like a sasquatch in headlights, and they’re not motivating me to, well, write. I’m not sure what that’s about, and I’m choosing to remain curious and see what a nourishing, open weekend with space for writing does for me. I’ll let you know.
So, I’m piling into a car with four other wordstresses and lots of good food, and I’m hoping for the best.
The only goal that it feels good to have right now for retreat is to focus on the treat part. So, I’m making some Thai soup and salad, baking some espresso walnut cookies, and packing a nice bottle of red.
And I’m trusting that it’s enough to make space and time for the words that I love, that if I build it, they will come. And if they bring Ray Liotta too, well, all the better.
Since underneath the doubt and angst, I know the world needs your stories and mine, my wish for us all for this weekend and beyond: May we all feel freedom to create.
Thank you so much for reading. You might notice that I don’t have a space for comments, but I’m certainly open to conversation about what’s written here. If you’re so inspired, feel free to start a conversation with me via the contact form on the homepage of this site.
